Around the eye area is a very tricky one to look after - you need a special type of cream or gel to take care of it properly. The pores under the eyes are much smaller than that of the rest of the face and using the wrong kind of cream can actually cause little white-head pimples to spring up around your eyes. Apply too much or too heavy texture and it will become prone to dark circles, puffiness, and baggy eyes. It is also important to take care of the area by applying SPF since this is one of the places where first wrinkles and fine lines can appear. With all of this in mind, we must also remember that the skin around the eyes is much thinner than the skin on the rest of your face, so you need to use a cream that offers excellent barrier repair, therefore it's best to look for rich forumlas to use at the night-time and lighter cream or gel during the day.

The application is also important - don't dare rubbing it in, but pat the product on the orbital bone, gently blending upward but stopping short of the lashline - avoid going too close to the eye, the product will simply spread around on it's own. I must admit that only recently I have started to reach for the eye creams on a daily bases. I may not see the immediate difference, but I am sure that it will pay off in the future. So here is my favourite bunch:

Simple Kind To Eyes Revitalising Eye Roll-On
This amazing product is perfect to get 'pick-my-eyes-up' look and feel. It contains a refreshing eye gel formulated with cucumber extract and vitamin goodness to wake up and reduce puffiness and revitalise tired eyes. The innovative roller ball applicator instantly cools and gently massages the delicate eye area. Beware - it is addictive!

Boots Botanics Hydrating Eye Cream Radiant Youth
This hydrating cream glides on to smooth lines, reduce the appearance of dark circles and boost radiance in the delicate eye area, where the signs of ageing first appear. It's very lightweight and a thin tip nozzle enables easy and precise application. I use it during the day and it does a great job of keeping my under eye skin hydrated.

Superdrug Vitamin E SPF 15 Radiance Eye Cream
This is another day cream that I use, especially during the summer since it has SPF 15. It also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. Besides SPF protection, it has a very delicate and subtle shimmer effect which gives the under eye area radiance - especially needed for those suffering from dark circles. Don't be put off reading negative reviews, the cream is very gentle and the shimmering effect is barely visible.

Clinique All About Eyes
This eye cream is on a more heavy/thick side, so it is my night-time product of choice. Much acclaimed and loved, as the name suggests it is a must-have product for all eyes. It reduces puffiness and minimises dark circles and fine lines with a lightweight, cream-gel formula which absorbs almost instantly.

Do you use eye cream? Which one is your favourite?

  1. I feel like such an odd-ball for not using eye cream! I actually have one of those rollerball ones but only really use it if I've got especially puffy eyes. I'll have to pick one up and see if I notice a difference.
